Northern Trinity GCD Encourages Rainwater Harvesting

Posted: October 25th, 2022

Rainwater harvesting is recommended by the Texas Water Development Board and is a great way to save water for irrigation and other outdoor uses.

Rainwater harvesting is the practice of collecting and storing rain for reuse rather than letting the water run off and be absorbed into the ground or channeled into drains, streams, or rivers. It is one of the easiest ways to conserve water at home while also protecting the aquifer. While it is important to check city and county ordinances regarding the use of rain barrels, State laws permit the use of rainwater harvesting to conserve water. Some of the uses for rainwater are:

Outdoor Uses

  • Gardens and landscaping
  • Swimming pools
  • Livestock water
  • Household chores like washing cars or dogs
  • Water features like bird baths or fountains
